This has an impact on the biodistribution, accumulation and tissue specificity of nanomedicines. This versatility is also of major importance for the therapeutic efficacy of nanomedicines. Indeed, PEG can increase the half-life of the nanomedicine in blood, leading to its accumulation in the diseased tissue, a feature that is highly beneficial for cancer treatments. For instance, this has been reported for doxorubicin, camptothecin, paclitaxel and daunorubicin-based nanomedicines. In conclusion, PEG is a key component of nanomedicines.
